Project Manager Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

Architect to be assigned the Project Manager role leading large scale Multi-Family and Mixed-Use housing projects for schematic design/development phase or earlier through construction document completion. Position also entails supporting the CA staff during construction with design decisions and occasional site visits, as well as supporting other project teams as a team member when required.

MIMINUM REQUIREMENTS

Ideal candidate would have a minimum of six years’ experience managing multiple Multi-Family and/or Mixed-Use projects at once. Architectural license preferred or the desire to be on the path to licensure. Must be able to work collaboratively with owners, contractors and internal staff using problem solving approach. REVIT proficiency is required, and AutoCAD literacy is preferred.

CLIENT INTERFACE:

  • Responsible for maintaining client relationships while designing the project. Keeps client apprised of project progress on regular basis. Initiates and maintains contact with other key project individuals for clarification, coordination and negotiation of critical issues.
  • Consults with client to determine function and spatial requirements and prepares information regarding design, specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time. Plans layouts of projects and integrates engineering elements into unified design for client review and approval.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT: 

  • Participates in developing marketing and business development strategies to acquire new work.
  • Identifies new business opportunities while developing current client relationships. Listens for and seek out new projects which may exist or are being formulated.
  • Seek new opportunities with personal contacts which will lead to potential new project opportunities.
  • Participates in selected marketing and business development opportunities.
  • Assists in development of fee proposals for marketing proposals.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT:  

  • Provides leadership including professional development coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Defines staff requirements for projects as needed or directed.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Strong knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
  • Knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
  • The ability to be responsive in a timely manner to clients and individuals within the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects of a complex scope.
  • Ability to manage, guide, mentor, and execute multiple design projects simultaneously by guiding various teams and team members.
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems.
  • Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets.
  • Thorough knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects of a complex scope.
  • Have strong visual awareness and an eye for detail
  • Be inventive and imaginative
  • Have a logical, analytical and creative approach to problem solving
  • Possess good time management skills
  • Be self-confident and able to cope with criticism of their work
  • Successfully be able to manage others and meeting and communicate with less experienced staff in an articulate manner that they learn and understand the task(s) that they are performing,.
  • Possess strong hand and advanced CAD, and BIM drafting skills.
  • Proficiency in Revit required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to adapt and learn 3D Modeling rendering software such as Lumion and T winmotion preferred.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and lnDesign graphic software preferred.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in team environment.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.
  • Be passionate about buildings and the built environment

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or equivalent in education or experience required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years (minimum) experience in architectural practice with management experience in all phases of projects through post-occupancy.
  • Licensed Architect preferred (required for Project Architect)
  • NCARB registration preferred.
  • LEED credential preferred.
